The triumphant squads are lead by brawny leaders and the significance of such role is obvious in all branches of sports. The feat of a leader is very dominant in interactive matches and games. The leader’s involvement in the success of a team’s performance is dominant.
Leadership maybe thought as a behavioral activity manipulating groups and individuals headed for determined goals. Thus, a leader is bestowed with has the dual responsibilities of navigating the individuals or groups towards achievements and making sure of the player satisfaction while achieving success.
The qualities of an effective leader:
Many leaders across team or individual sports may exhibit personality traits from one of the following.
1) Laissez-Faire Leaders
2) Autocratic Leaders
3) Democratic Leaders
Laissez-Faire Style and World Leaders:
Firstly, the laissez– faire style will be discussed; this leader will stand back let the groups or individuals to make their own sovereign choices. This method happens automatically and results in a loss of group direction with a leader with bad qualities. Lewin (1985) established that when faced with a laissez– faire style of leadership, group members were noted to be hostile towards each other and quit easily with blunders.
Autocratic Style and World Leaders:
The Autocratic style of leadership is inspired to finish the task quickly and efficiently as possible taking all the decisions by him. This type of team or sports governance is also known as‘authoritarian’ and ignores the thoughts of other team members. The autocratic leader does not entrust duties on other mates. Authoritarianism is needed when quick decisions are needed for huge groups/teams i.e. warm up session of the entire team, with in-disciplined and unfriendly groups.
Democratic Style and World Leaders:
Lastly, we are left with the democratic leaders. This form of management imparts collective decision making and delegates his responsibility towards its juniors. These leaders work in sessions whilst enjoy significant interpersonal associations with team mates. The aim is to make the group work harder by imparting the possession of the mission to each individual, whilst creating unity and a common goal. This style would be efficient in a co-active game with little to no time

The leader selected for this discussion is the late Kobe Bean Bryant (1978-2020) the American professional basketball player.

Kobe started his career as shooting guard entering from high school. Bryant won five championships of the NBA, he was 12-times member of the All-Defensive Team, enjoyed the rank of All star 18times, he was 15 times the member of the All-NBA team,and was named the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2008, whilst two times being a winner of the NBA Finals MVP award. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, among his other numerous achievements in his NBA career.

Joe Brynt an ex NBA player was Kobee Brynt’s father. He went to the Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania, where he was acknowledged as the top high-school basketball player. After his graduation, he was chosen for the 1996 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th overall pick; to trade him to the Lakers. As a draftee, Bryant received a status of a high-flyer and was favorite with his fans when he won the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest, and by the time his second season ended he was named an All-Star. Because of his contributions the Lakers enjoyed successive NBA championships from 2000 to 2002 inspire of a dispute with cow player Shaquille O’Neal. In 2003, the late Bryant faced criminal proceedings through a sexual assault case by a 19-year-old hotel clerk. Which were later taken away when the accuser failed testify. He also issued a public apology for his sexual encounter pertaining to the case later.

Kobe was the most prominent in scoring during the 2005–06 and 2006–07 NBA games. His career-high score 81 points in 2006, which was proclaimed to be the second most scored points in a single game in the history of the league. The team saw two successive championships in 2009 and 2010 under his leadership; for which he was named NBA Finals MVP at both occasions. His league continued while being among the top players of the league throughout 2013, with his a torn Achilles tendon injury at the age of 34. Even tough he improved from that injury, he encountered season-ending wounds to his knee and shoulder, respectively, in the subsequent two seasons. Owing to his physical health, Bryant took a retirement after the 2015–16 seasons.
At the young age of 34 years and 104 days, Bryant achieved the milestone of becoming the youngest player in history of the league to reach 30,000 career points. He was the all-time highest scorer in Lakers franchise history on February 1, 2010. Bryant was also the first guard in NBA history to play at least 20 seasons. As a member of the U.S. national team of the summer Olympics of the year 2008, he claimed two gold medals. In 2018, he also achieved the Best Academy Award for his Animated Short Film, Dear Basketball made in 2017.
Bryant died on January 26, 2020, during a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
